Poetry: Remember When

Blue and white

White and blue

Frills, lace

And cake too

That day someone said

“You look so happy”

Now I pause, and I think

‘Remember when’

Remember when

You were my friend

You said it wouldn’t end

You told me to trust

You promised no judgment

You looked in my eyes, and

You offered forgiveness

Blue and white

White and blue

Tears, screams

I feared you

Remember when

You called me slut

You told the world I did you wrong

You crafted a tale

You tried to destroy me

You made all the jokes, and

You rewrote history

Blue and black

Black and blue

Lies, pain

Nothing’s true

Remember when

You became nothing

You failed to control me

You took off the mask

You lost everything

You woke in the night, and

You were alone at last

Blue and black

Black and blue

Strength, hope, and

Free of you

Remember when

I became free

Thank you

Thank you

Thank you

For all the things

That will never be

Remember when

You no longer mattered to me
